Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition moves the series out of the mall and into Los Perdidos, a full open city crawling with thousands of zombies at once. Capcom Vancouver built this one around scale, and the Apocalypse Edition bundles in all four Untold Stories DLC chapters on top of the base campaign.

Nick Ramos is a mechanic trying to escape the city before a military firebombing wipes it off the map. That deadline drives the whole campaign, though this entry is far more forgiving about the clock than the original Dead Rising was, with a Nightmare Mode available if you want the old punishing timer back.

Combo weapons return and go bigger than ever. Weld a sledgehammer to a chainsaw, strap a flamethrower onto a shotgun, or build a full combo vehicle by merging a motorcycle with a steamroller. The absurdity is the point, and the city is packed with parts to keep experimenting.

The zombie count is the real headline. Los Perdidos throws hundreds of infected onto the screen simultaneously, turning ordinary street crossings into wading exercises. Driving a combo vehicle through a packed intersection remains one of the most satisfying things in the series.

Untold Stories DLC fills in what other survivors were doing during the outbreak, each chapter following a different character with their own weapons, vehicles, and objectives. They’re self-contained side campaigns rather than small add-ons, and they add real hours to the package.

Psychopath boss fights return, built around the seven deadly sins theme this time. Each encounter pairs a genuinely unhinged character with a fight that demands a different approach, and they break up the open-world zombie clearing with real tension.

The open world itself hides collectibles, blueprints, safe houses, and survivor missions across its districts. Exploring off the main path pays off consistently, since new combo weapon blueprints directly expand what you can build.

For anyone who wanted the Dead Rising formula at city scale with every DLC included, the Apocalypse Edition is the version to grab. It’s the biggest, most chaotic entry the series produced.
