Commandos Behind Enemy Lines Pc Game
About Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is a 1998 real-time tactics game from the Spanish studio Pyro Studios, first published by Eidos Interactive. It drops you into World War II with a small squad and a stack of near-impossible jobs.
You command 6 commandos, and each one has a specific skill. The squad has a Green Beret, a Sniper, a Marine, a Sapper, a Driver, and a Spy, and every mission needs a different mix of them.
The game has 24 missions, all set behind enemy lines. Your goal is to wreck the German war effort through sabotage and careful planning.
The locations change a lot. You work through the North African desert, the banks of the Rhine, the fjords of Norway, and the beaches of Normandy.
Enemy soldiers have vision cones and patrol set routes. You study those routes, split the squad, and time each move so nobody gets spotted.
Expect to save often. One missed patrol turns a clean plan into a firefight your commandos can’t win, and reloading is part of the game.
The maps hold more than 350 structures, vehicles, and weapons from the WWII era. A team of around 18 people built it, writing roughly 250,000 lines of C++ and assembly code.
PC Gamer UK gave it 80% and PC Zone gave it 87% at release. The series kept going, and the prequel Commandos: Origins arrived in April 2025. Steam still sells the original.
