Kohan II: Kings of War is a fantasy real-time strategy game from TimeGate Studios, released in September 2004. It continues the war in the land of Khaldun and moves the series from 2D to full 3D terrain with weather effects.

The story picks up years after Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns. The old war between Light and Shadow takes a short break, then civil war breaks out as an ancient evil starts calling the Shadow-touched together.

Units move in companies, not one by one. You give an order to a company and it handles the fighting. That keeps micromanagement low, so your time goes into positioning and conquest.

Heroes matter a lot here. The game has over 70 Kohan heroes, and you keep them alive to reach their strongest spells. Losing one hurts.

The campaign runs 25 missions. Six warring races and five rival political factions give the world plenty of conflict to work with.

Cities are walled areas with individual buildings, drawn to scale with your units. The earlier Kohan games showed cities as small icons on the map.

Multiplayer supports up to 8 rival generals online. A random map generator and map editors let you build your own skirmish maps, so the game keeps going after the campaign ends.

Computer Games Magazine named it a Top 10 Game of 2004. Steam sells it today, and players report it runs on Windows 10, with some launching it as administrator. If you like fantasy strategy with lots of heroes and little busywork, this one is worth a look.
