Hearing his footsteps or that guttural “S.T.A.R.S.” growl still raises the tension instantly.

The dodge mechanic changes how combat feels compared to earlier entries. Timing a sidestep around an incoming attack opens a window for a free counter-shot, and mastering that timing turns Jill from a vulnerable survivor into someone who can actually hold her ground against tougher enemies when needed.

Raccoon City itself gets more screen time here than in previous entries, with streets, a police station, a hospital, and a clock tower all serving as backdrops to Jill’s escape. Seeing the outbreak hit a full city rather than a single mansion or station gives this entry a different scale of horror.

Branching choices show up at a few key points, letting specific decisions shift which areas you explore or which outcomes certain sequences lead to. It’s not a sprawling choice system, but it adds minor replay incentive beyond just a second playthrough for completion.

Weapon crafting lets you combine gunpowder types to create custom ammo, giving you some control over your loadout depending on what you’re facing next. Balancing standard rounds against stronger, rarer combinations becomes a real resource management decision.

Mercenaries mode returns as a timed score-attack mode separate from the main campaign, rewarding efficient enemy clearing and smart routing through a level. It’s a solid arcade-style complement to the slower, tenser main story.
