About Onimusha 3: Demon Siege
Onimusha 3: Demon Siege throws feudal Japan and modern Paris into the same story, and it commits fully to the collision. Samanosuke Akechi finds himself pulled through time into the middle of a demon invasion tearing through the French capital, fighting alongside a modern-day soldier caught up in the same mess.
Capcom built the combat around the series’ signature Issen counter system, where a perfectly timed parry drops an enemy in one hit. Landing it consistently against tougher enemies turns fights from slow attrition into fast, satisfying executions, and the game rewards players who study enemy attack patterns rather than button-mash through them.
Souls absorbed from defeated demons still power weapon upgrades and magic, following the same core loop the earlier games established. Balancing which souls to spend on offense versus defense shapes how you handle the tougher demon encounters later in the campaign.
The dual-setting structure genuinely changes the game’s rhythm. Feudal Japan levels lean into traditional Onimusha atmosphere, dark castles, ghostly corridors, oni lurking in shadow. The Paris sections trade that for a modern city under siege, with demons tearing through streets and landmarks in broad daylight.
Jean Reno appears as a playable character modeled after the actor himself, fighting alongside Samanosuke through the Paris sections. It’s an unusual crossover for the series, and the character swap between him and Samanosuke adds real variety to how missions play out.
Puzzle-solving carries over from earlier entries, with item-based obstacles gating progress between combat encounters. Backtracking through familiar areas with a new item or ability unlocked keeps exploration relevant well past the first playthrough of any given level.
Boss fights lean into spectacle, pitting you against massive demons that require learning specific attack windows rather than pure reaction speed. Several of these encounters rank among the series’ most memorable, mixing scale with genuine mechanical challenge.
For fans of the series’ blend of samurai action and demon-hunting horror, Demon Siege’s willingness to jump between two wildly different settings makes it one of the odder, more memorable entries. It’s a strange crossover that mostly works.
